  12. COERCED: The Devotion & Death of Mica Francis Miller

COERCED: The Devotion & Death of Mica Francis Miller

On April 27, 2024, 30-year-old Mica Francis Miller — wife of Myrtle Beach pastor John-Paul Miller — walked a mile into a North Carolina state park and made a 911 call that would be the last time the world heard her voice. Within days, her death was ruled a suicide — a ruling that would have ended the story for most true crime journalists. We aren't most true crime journalists. And Mica's story is anything but typical. COERCED: The Devotion & Death of Mica Francis Miller is a LUNASHARK® DROP-FEED from the award-winning team behind the Murdaugh Murders Podcast — investigative journalists Mandy Matney, Liz Farrell and Beth Braden — along with producers Kate Thomas, Grace Hills and David Moses. It’s a remastered, chronological retelling of more than 2 years of original reporting from the True Sunlight Podcast, built for listeners who want to follow one case. Listen To Current Coverage On The True Sunlight Podcast or Ad-Free from LUNASHARK Premium on Patreon or Supercast  At the time of her death, Mica left behind a paper trail of evidence documenting how JP allegedly abused Mica emotionally, physically, sexually, medically and spiritually throughout their relationship, which started when she was a teenager and he was her youth pastor. Mica died while she was in the process of divorcing JP Miller. COERCED takes a deeper look at JP Miller’s dark past that includes rape allegations, alleged bestiality, an assault conviction and pardon, and a pattern of allegedly abusive behavior that can be traced back to his father — Rev. Wayne Miller. JP’s felon father once owned a Christian complex in South Carolina called Gloryland… before it mysteriously burned down.   Through exclusive interviews, 911 calls, court filings, and documents obtained through relentless FOIA requests, COERCED examines coercive control, medical and spiritual abuse, and the systems that dismissed a woman fighting for her life — and asks what accountability looks like. Mica couldn't save herself. But her story could save others. This series discusses domestic abuse, coercive control, and suicide. If you or someone you know needs support, please call or text 988 or contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233. A Vida Dupla do Espião Traidor

Focus: Adults in the Room

The production team behind the Peabody-nominated "Lost Patients" returns with a new investigative series: "Adults in the Room." Episodes will come out Tuesdays at midnight Pacific Time. Seattle, 1999. At Garfield High School, Mr. Hudson is a legend. With a thundering voice and imposing stature, Mr. Hudson — or “Tom” as select students call him — teaches biology and leads an elite outdoors program. But when teen reporters at the school paper start exploring a rumor that he sexually abused students, all hell breaks loose. Adults close ranks, and schoolmates turn on the young journalists. And then one day, a voice on the school intercom announces that Mr. Hudson is dead. Isolde Raftery is one of the students who first hears about and reports allegations against Mr. Hudson. Today, she is an investigative journalist in Seattle. In "Adults in the Room," Raftery re-reports the story to understand what really happened in 1999. Was a whole school community groomed by a charismatic predator? Or was she part of a whisper campaign that cost the life of a great teacher?  "Focus" is KUOW’s home for immersive audio documentaries. Each season zooms in on a single story that challenges commonly held narratives about life in the Pacific Northwest and reveals something bigger about American society.

  9. Founders

    Founders

Learn from history's greatest entrepreneurs. Every week I read a biography of an entrepreneur and find ideas you can use in your work. This quote explains why: "There are thousands of years of history in which lots and lots of very smart people worked very hard and ran all types of experiments on how to create new businesses, invent new technology, new ways to manage etc. They ran these experiments throughout their entire lives. At some point, somebody put these lessons down in a book. For very little money and a few hours of time, you can learn from someone’s accumulated experience. There is so much more to learn from the past than we often realize. You could productively spend your time reading experiences of great people who have come before and you learn every time." —Marc Andreessen

  4. Death of an Artist

    Death of an Artist

In February 2024, celebrated children’s book author and illustrator Petra Mathers and her husband, photographer Michael Mathers, mailed letters to dozens of friends and family members to let them know they had died by suicide. Petra and Michael were by all accounts healthy, happy, and in love. Why did they choose to die together? And what did that decision do to the people left to mourn them?  In season 3 of Death of an Artist, journalists Leon Neyfakh and Alice Gregory set out to interview everyone who got one of Petra and Michael’s letters—as one married couple trying to understand another. Through intimate conversations with Petra and Michael’s friends and family about their own relationships to aging, grief, death, and the friends they thought they knew, Death of an Artist weaves together a portrait of a community grappling with the Mathers’ deaths and the final words they left behind. Listen back to season 2, where Katy Hessel offers an inside look at how Jackson Pollock and his wife, Lee Krasner, changed everything about the landscape of modern art. And in season 1, host Helen Molesworth revisits the artist Ana Mendieta’s death and the trial that followed—interrogating both the silence and the protest that have accompanied her story ever since.  Death of an Artist Season 1 is a co-production between Pushkin Industries, Somethin’ Else, and Sony Music Entertainment. Death of an Artist Season 2 is a co-production between Pushkin Industries and Samizdat Audio.

We welcome you to wander with us as we stroll past the picket fences, and straight into the homes and hearts of the Wisteria Lane.
