Is My House Falling Apart & Is it ALL Worn Out - A Home Inspection Conversation

Is My House Falling Apart & Is it ALL Worn Out - A Home Inspection Conversation

2023-10-11

Buying a home is a big decision, and it’s important to make sure you’re getting the best value for your money. That’s why it’s important to have a home inspection done before you purchase a property. On the latest episode of the Bricks and Banter podcast, hosts Dylan and Scott welcomed Tim Palmer, a certified master home inspector from Light House Home Inspections, to discuss the process of home inspections and the importance of customer service and relationships.

Tim emphasized the need to be aware of potential wiring issues, especially in older homes, and the use of testers to check for live wiring in attics. The hosts and guest discussed the dangers of knob and tube wiring, retro-style push button light switches, and other factors to consider when buying a home, such as location, school district, and proximity to family. They also discussed the post-COVID world and the current market, and the importance of hiring professionals for home improvement projects.

Tim then explained the benefits of ground source heat pumps, regular maintenance for homes, and the importance of inspecting a roof before buying a home. He also warned of the potential dangers of roof inspections and shared a story of a dislocated shoulder he suffered while inspecting a four-car garage.

“It’s important to remember that home inspections are not just about finding problems,” said Tim. “It’s also about educating the buyer on the condition of the home and helping them make an informed decision.”
