Ulrich Alexander Boschwitz, pseudonym John Grane (April 19, 1915, Berlin – October 29, 1942, North Atlantic), was a German author. Life. Boschwitz was the son of Salomon ‘Sally’ Boschwitz and Martha Ella, née Wolgast. Salomon was a wealthy Jewish factory owner who had converted to Christianity, in 1911, when he married Martha. Martha was descended from a prominent Lübeck patrician family, the Plitts, and had studied painting in Berlin and Munich.
