BakarPodOn 30th January 1948, Nathuram Godse, shot a defenseless, unarmedold man at point-blank range in a prayer meeting. That man was MohandasKaramchand Gandhi. Nathuram Godse was hanged on 15th November 1949. In 1964other conspirators of assassination were released which resulted in celebration in Pune,and remark of the grandson of Bal Gangadhar Tilak that he knew about Godse’s desireto kill Gandhi, led to public outrage. This led to the formation of a commission to inquirebefore and aftermath of assassination which ultimately was called Kapur Commission.
