Quest Ed

Quest Ed

Drew Mindell

Inspired by Jewish mythology, grounded in a comprehensive sex education curriculum, and centering queer and trans voices, Quest Ed is a delightful romp through a world where it’s easier for students to access magic and monstrosities beyond their understanding than sex education in America. Go figure.

A group of curious teenagers at a Jewish day school find themselves in detention for various offenses related to sex or sexuality. They’re tasked with dusting/organizing the library, when they come upon something… strange. It looked like an ordinary book. There was no reason to think the familiar Hebrew characters, spelling out unfamiliar words, would sound like anything besides nonsense. Definitely not an invocation to return a powerful being back into the world, one the administration and community had spent a long time trying to suppress. Suddenly, the detention crew finds themselves on a wild, winding adventure to re-trap whatever it is they brought back about, before their parents and teachers can find out. Along the way, they need to maintain what semblance of a normal life they still have and grapple with the pitfalls of teenagehood and growing up that are still hurtling towards them.
